Staphylococcus Aureus

Test Description

Staphylococcus aureus is a toxin producing bacteria that leads to food poisoning. Interestingly around 25% of people have S. aureus present on their skin on in their nose and it does not usually cause illness in healthy people. People who carry S. aureus can contaminate food products if they don't wash their hands prior to handling it.

has a high salt tolerance, and can grow in ham and other meats, and in dairy products. The toxins that the bacteria produce are also heat resistant and cannot be destroyed through cooking.
